It's Up To You Newtown
Itâs Up To You Newtown
To the Editor:
Having various perspectives on a variety of local and national issues is the quintessential element that makes our town and our country unique. Indeed, these differences strengthen our community by offering a diversity of solutions as we work with deepened resolve toward the betterment of Newtown. IPNâs positions are clear, detailed, and published.
The only position papers our citizens ever read in the past were written by the Friends of Fairfield Hills and WeCan, both currently active and an integral part of the IPN. Today we have the Democratic and Republican parties writing position papers and letters to the editor, at a pace that is keeping Mr Clark, editor of The Bee, on his editorial toes. Platforms are being developed, that were thought useless in the past, and political parties are scrambling to tell us of their accomplishments, whether accurate or not.
While professing civility we find opposing party affiliates writing otherwise. Still the public has benefited and is significantly more conscious of the issues and character of the parties. All this did not happen before the IPN. However, now that it has, Newtown has to decide which party will best represent them going forward. Will we be represented by an organization that took us for granted for so many years, or will we be better served by an organization that identified the issues, made concrete suggestions and specific campaign promises? Itâs Up To You Newtown!
The Walczak/Furrier team has very specific ideas regarding decisionmaking, prioritization of issues, approval and implementation of projects, planning and control, all of which can be found on our website www.ipn2009.org. The Walczak/Furrier candidates, made up of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and unaffiliated, are clearly committed to moving Newtown forward by utilizing their knowledge, experiences and currently available technology to reduce our expenses and tax burden. Forming a representative government and balancing our expenses with income are critical issues. Stabilizing our financial condition by anticipating expenditures and making decisions based on sound financial analyses before taking action is an operational necessity. Does this sound like a âtax and spendâ party? Thinking ahead and involving people: it couldnât be simpler! Itâs Up To You Newtown!
Members of the IPN, with specific business, financial, economic, marketing/sales, and planning credentials are committed to contributing their expertise where the returns can have immediate impact on our current and future welfare. Painting hallways, picking up trash, removing eyesores, although greatly appreciated, is not equivalent to addressing our property taxes, our need for long-range planning, or assuring that our firefighters and police officers have proper facilities and equipment, or that our schools be returned to Blue Ribbon status. And, letâs not forget about our ever-increasing capital budget and the selectmenâs request for an additional $30 million for Fairfield Hills. These are but a few of the significantly more important issues requiring our immediate attention. We can work together if given a chance. Itâs All Up To You Newtown!
