*Newtown resident Lil Orlowski has donated to the C.H. Booth library a quilt that was originally in the collection of Lynn Johnston. Lil, a well-known quilting expert and teacher of the art, states that this is a turn-of-the-century handmade velvet quilt in the Log Cabin pattern from the same era as the quilt made by Mary Hawley herself that is displayed on the third floor of the library.
The quilt is on display near the reference area, and the library staff thanks Lil for her generosity in sharing this beautiful piece with Newtown townspeople.

Adult Programs
*On Thursday, September 8, at 7 pm, George Paik will discuss American foreign policy. Foreign policy seems one more arena in which Americaâs conduct is so often at odds with itself, so often for bad reasons. We want coherence, in foreign policy and other public arenas, and between the various sectors. Mr Paikâs talk will suggest some specific measures that would shape an overall strategy that exemplifies Americaâs commitment to freedom, and prove the viability of a free society.
Mr Paik is managing director of LCP Capital LLC, an institutional investment firm in New York, and vice chairman of the Stamford-based World Affairs Forum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about world affairs. Between 1988 and 1995 he was an officer in the US Foreign Service, served in overseas tours in political affairs and consular services at the US Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago, and also served at the State Department in Washington, D.C., as an international economist. Join us for what promises to be a stimulating and hopeful evening.
*Join us for âWorld of Miniatures: It Is a Small World After All,â on Tuesday, September 27, at 7 pm. This passion and pastime is great for all ages. She will also bring a wing of her own dollhouse, Little Kirby.
