Make Veterans Day

More Than A School Holiday

To the Editor:

How does Veterans Day honor veterans? Every veteran that I know who is not retired, working for a government agency, or a bank went to work on Veterans Day. All the kids had the day off school.

Wouldn’t it be more of an honor if the veterans had the day off work, the kids went to school and had a day dedicated to learning about veterans? Veterans could come into the classroom and talk about their experiences. The VFW and the American Legion would be proud to do that.

Let’s make Veterans Day more than just another school holiday. We have plenty of those. Our children need to know the cost of their freedom and the veterans deserve more thanks.
