St Rose School To Host Camp Invention

St Rose School will host Camp Invention, a national summer day camp that encourages children to develop their innate creative abilities. It will be held June 24–27 and June 30, from 9 am to 3:30 pm, for children entering second through sixth grade in the 2003–2004 school year.

Camp Invention is designed to promote creative learning by providing children with hands-on interactive activities that encourage creative solutions. Children participate in five inventive modules each day, which include disassembling old appliances and using the parts to make their own inventions; creating toys and other devices that spin to fly; and solving a series of riddles related to the history of flight to help catch a criminal.

Kris Benton, a teacher at St Rose, will direct the camp. She will head up a staff of area teachers, along with local high school students who will serve as counselors. The camp features a low staff/camper ratio, with one staff member for every eight campers.

Camp Invention receives support from many corporate sponsors including Otis Elevator Company, Ford Motor Company, Roadway Express, and the American Intellectual Property Law Association. Camp Invention is a project of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, a nationally recognized, nonprofit resource center for creativity in Ohio. It is presented in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The $190 camp fee includes snacks and a T-shirt. A ten percent discount is offered for siblings. Registration is limited to 110 children. Call 800-968-4332 to register. For further information, visit www.campinvention.org or call regional coordinator Nancy Landona at 575-1567.
