Synergy Brass Quintet To Perform Benefit Concert For Edmond Town Hall Saturday

By Eliza Hallabeck

Students at Middle Gate Elementary school were the first to hear the Synergy Brass Quintet play and entertain them with information about each of the five musician’s instruments. Parents and residents will have a chance to also hear the acclaimed jazz ensemble play this Saturday, May 15, at Edmond Town Hall at 7:30 pm.

Each school in the Newtown Public School system is scheduled to have the musicians perform for students between May 10 and May 18. The May 15 event at Edmond Town Hall was offered as a benefit concert by the group, and was put together by the Newtown Schools PTA.

The cultural arts event will give all proceeds to The Mary Hawley Society, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase public awareness of the historic nature of the historic Edmond Town Hall and to raise funds for its preservation.

According to a flyer for the Edmond Town Hall event, “The concert will include a diverse selection of classical, jazz, and contemporary music, with some pieces set to video. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our community through the arts.”

Newtown Middle School Cultural Arts Chair Andrea Spencer, Reed PTA Cultural Arts Chair Robin Fitzgerald, and Head O’ Meadow Cultural Arts Chair Ginny Bloomquist oversaw planning, promotion, and more for the Newtown schedule.

Sponsors for the Edmond Town Hall benefit concert are the Creative Music Center in conjunction with Bach Trumpets, a division of Conn-Selmer, Microtel, Stratton Faxon Law Firm, Associated Refuse, Tim Rahr and Sarah Roman, Claris, Sippin Energy Products, Inc, Union Savings Band, and graphic designer Joanie Minor.

General admission tickets are available for purchase at Drug Center of Newtown through May 15 and cost $12 for adults, $8 for students and $10 for seniors. Checks should be made out to the Mary Hawley Society, and tickets will also be available at Edmond Town Hall at the time of the performance.
