Keeping Newtown Warm

To the Editor:

The Newtown Police Department recently concluded its ninth annual “Mitten Tree” collection. I am very excited to say that this was one of the most successful collections to date! Thanks to the overwhelming response from the many who dropped off new hats, mittens, and scarves and placed them on our tree; we were able to collect nearly 400 items! This year even found several brand new coats at the foot of the tree! Several communities including Newtown were able to benefit from all your overwhelming generosity!

We all know that this year has been particularly a bitter cold one thus far; and to the many that perhaps who have been struggling, these donations perhaps have been literally a life saver! On behalf of the nearly 400 heads, necks, and hands that are now toasty warm...I thank you all!

I’m proud to work for a community that responds to the needs of their neighbors!
