KENT - On Saturday, February 27, Kent Art Association (KAA) will celebrate its 93rd year with its Annual Student Art Show. An opening reception will be held from 12 to 4 pm, with an awards ceremony scheduled for 2 pm.

The Student Art Show, one of the association's most important events, presents the work of talented young artists from the area's public and private high schools. Previous exhibitions have featured innovative work such as a stunning blue and gold raincoat made from rabbit food bags, an ephemeral translucent plastic statue, giant bold graphics, and delicate ink drawings. Viewers have found themselves impressed by the imagination, talent, and use of unexpected materials by the young artists.

Students from area schools may enter two pieces of artwork, with a maximum of 20 pieces per school. Delivery dates are Friday, February 19, from 3 to 5 pm; and Saturday, February 20, from 10 am to 1 pm.

Cash prizes of $25, KAA Awards of Excellence, and a one year student membership to KAA will be awarded in each of the following categories: oil/acrylic, watercolor, pastel, drawing, mixed media, photography, and sculpture.

The Student Show will be on view to the public Saturdays, February 27 and March 6, from 4 to 6 pm; and Sunday, March 7, 3 to 5 pm.

The gallery is at 21 South Main Street (Route 7) in Kent, approximately 100 yards south of the intersection of routes 7 and 341.
