STEM Night At Hawley School
Hawley Elementary School third and fourth grade students and their parents visited different stations set up in the school’s gymnasium on Wednesday, March 4, for the school’s first STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Night.
The event was sponsored by the school’s PTA and overseen by Hawley math/science specialist Jenna Connors.
“I hope this is the first of many,” said Ms Connors, with groups of people at each station around the room.
Ms Connors also said she was excited for the first opportunity to have students and their parents gather together to celebrate the aspects of STEM.
Stations at the evening event included a math game, tablets and laptops ready with math apps for students to complete, the school’s 3D printer, and activities offered by EverWonder Children’s Museum, through its EverWonder On The Road program. Activities overseen by EverWonder included “Archetecture Mystery,” which challenged students to design towers with different materials, “Magnify This,” which had students examine slides under a microscope, and “Newspaper Trees,” which had students make “trees” out of newspaper.
EverWonder Children’s Museum Executive Director Tamara Barry, after being introduced by Ms Connors, announced that EverWonder Children’s Museum will be reopening on March 21 at its new location, 31 Pecks Lane.
