Mobile Food Pantry Coming February 17

SOUTHBURY — The Connecticut Food Bank’s Mobile Food Pantry will be delivering a variety of fresh produce for a free distribution to limited income households on Friday, February 17, at 1 pm in back of the Southbury Senior Center at 561 Main Street South.

This program is not just for Southbury residents but for any person from area towns who considers him/herself as low income and in need of food assistance. No proof of income is needed. Participants are requested to bring their own sturdy bags.

The monthly distribution takes place on the third Friday of each month at 1 pm, weather permitting. If school is cancelled because of snow, the truck will not come. Next month’s distribution is scheduled for March 16.

At the first distribution in October there were 52 participants, and in January there were close to 100 participants.

Some of the items distributed last month included bags of apples, carrots, onions, potatoes, yams, butternut squash, Romaine hearts, bananas, organic yogurt, cheese, and eggs. There are always many volunteers on hand to help distribute produce or carry heavy bags, and the line moves quickly.

For more information, call the Southbury Senior Center at 203-262-0651.
