Highway Sideswipe
State Police responded to the area of Exit 10 on eastbound Interstate 84 at about 2:24 pm on September 9 following a reported minor collision. Upon locating the vehicles involved, troopers report that Edieth Montalvo, 75, of Newington was operating a 2016 Hyundai Tucson in the left lane when she initiated a lane change and struck a 2003 BMW 325xi being operated by Manuel Jesus Ayavaca-Rumipulla, 60, of Danbury, on its left side. Montalvo was issued a verbal warning for making an unsafe lane change.
Bumper To Bumper
Police responded to a reported crash near the intersection of Old Bethel and Mount Pleasant Roads at 11:30 am on September 8. Upon investigation, it was reported that Leo O’Sullivan, 78, of Sturges Road, was operating a 2015 Toyota Tacoma pickup westbound on Old Bethel Road when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck the front of an oncoming eastbound 1998 BMW 318TI being operated by Michael Summers, 48, of Bethel. Police say both vehicles were damaged to the extent they had to be towed. O’Sullivan, who reportedly had a slight injury but declined medical attention, received an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Two Jeeps Stolen
On September 7, Newtown Police reported the theft of two similar vehicles. At about 7:33 am that day, an Old Bethel Road resident notified police that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was taken from their residence. Then, at about 9:25 am, a Currituck Road resident reported the theft of a Jeep Grand Cherokee as well. In both cases, owners stated the keys were left inside the vehicles. Both Jeeps were traced by GPS and located in Hartford, according to police. The cases are currently under investigation.
Mazda Vs Audi
At 11:47 am on September 6, police were dispatched to a minor traffic collision near the intersection of Washington and Crestwood Avenues. Upon investigation, police say Evan Ilman Song, 17, of Sandy Hook was operating a 2017 Mazda Cx-5 northbound on Washington Avenue directly behind a 2012 Audi A4 being operated by Easton Cole Ricks, 17, of Newtown, when the Audi slowed for traffic and was hit from behind. No injuries were immediately reported, and police issued Song a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Verbal Warning
Newtown Police were called to the area of 189 South Main Street at 8:03 am on September 5 following a reported minor collision. Upon investigation, it was reported that Cynthia Wilson, 37, of Terryville was operating a 2008 Suzuki Sx4 southbound and had stopped to turn left, when she was struck from behind by a 2004 Audi A4 being operated by Arnold DiGregorio, 71, of Brookfield. Police say the left front bumper of the Audi contacted the right rear bumper of the Suzuki causing minor damage. No injuries were immediately reported and DiGregorio was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.
Vehicles Towed
Two vehicles involved in a collision at the intersection of Church Hill and Edmond Roads at 11:54 am on September 5 were damaged to the extent they had to be towed. According to police, Robert Emmons, 58, of Wrightstown, N.J., was operating a 2015 Mercedes GLA250 and was attempting to turn left into the parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road from the westbound lane. Emmons was reportedly waved by a driver in stopped traffic and collided with an eastbound 2009 Pontiac Vibe being operated in the eastbound right turn lane by Julio Cesar Peraro, 30, of New Milford. The force of the collision forced the Pontiac onto a parking lot island. Both vehicles sustained front end damage, but no injuries were immediately reported. Emmons was issued a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.
