Bar Fight

Police said they responded about 7 pm on November 26 to Market Place Kitchen & Bar at 32 Church Hill Road after receiving a report that an assault had occurred there.

Police said their investigation determined that Lisa Burgess, 59, of Newtown had engaged in a verbal argument with a bartender and the manager. Also, Burgess physically assaulted a customer sitting at the bar.

Police charged Burgess with second-degree breach of peace and with third-degree assault. After posting $200 bail, Burgess was released for a December 13 court appearance.

Three-Vehicle Crash

A three-vehicle accident occurred about 4:15 pm on November 25 on South Main Street, south of its northern intersection with Pecks Lane.

Police said a southbound 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit auto driven by Dimitrius Epting-Metaxas, 20, of Newtown, left the southbound travel lane and entered the northbound lane, where the Volkswagen became involved in an accident with a 2005 Toyota RAV-4 SUV driven by Hope Czarsty, 74, of Newtown, and a 2010 Lexus LX-570 SUV driven by Andrew Sirois, 37, of Sandy Hook.

Dimitrius Epting-Metaxas and Volkswagen passenger Dominic Epting-Metaxas, 20, of New Milford, plus Czarsty were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment. Both Volkswagen occupants were discharged from the hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. No information is available on Czarsty. The accident is under investigation.

DUI Arrest

Police said they were alerted about 2:21 am on November 24 of an erratic motorist traveling northward on Main Street who then turned onto Currituck Road.

Police stopped the vehicle in question on Currituck Road, in the area between its intersections with Tunnel Road and Butterfield Road, to investigate, after which they charged motorist Francisco DeSouza-Santos, 28, of Brookfield, with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

After arrest processing, police released DeSouza-Santos on $100 bail for a December 6 court appearance.

Interstate Crash

State police said that at about 2:10 pm on November 24, motorist Ludin Salazao, 17, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon auto westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, changed travel lanes and struck a 2012 Honda Civic auto driven by Hosain I. Hosain, 22, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.

There were no injuries. Salazao received an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Theft From Vehicle

Police received a report just after 6 am on November 23 that there had been a theft of items from a vehicle parked at a residence on Daniels Hill Road, which is a dead-end side street off Parmalee Hill Road.

Police went to the scene and found that someone had smashed open a passenger-side window on a vehicle and stole items from within. The theft likely occurred sometime between midnight and 6 am, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Arrest

While on patrol at about 10 pm on November 23, police spotted a motorist traveling fast and crossing over the road’s shoulder line and center lines on Wasserman Way, so they stopped the driver near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Mile Hill Road South to investigate.

Police said that during their investigation, motorist Jared Pearson, 20, of Newtown presented fake identification to them. Police charged Pearson with driving under the influence by a person under age 21, second-degree forgery, and traveling unreasonably fast.

Following arrest processing, police released Pearson on $500 bail for an arraignment on December 6 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Warrant

Police report that on November 23, they charged Erika Delacruz, 30, of Waterbury on a warrant, lodging one count of second-degree failure to appear in court. After posting $750 bail, Delacruz was released for a December 6 court appearance. The original charges stem from a June motor vehicle incident in Orange.

Ice Off Truck

At about 12:06 pm on November 21, on westbound Intestate 84, near Rochambeau Bridge, a piece of ice flew off the trailer section of a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck driven by Roxeanna Blair, 55, of Broken Arrow, Ohio, and then hit the windshield of a 2015 Toyota Venza SUV driven by Susan Cristadoro, 67, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Blair for failure to remove ice/snow from a commercial vehicle.

Truck Damaged

Police are investigating an incident in which an unoccupied 2014 Toyota Tacoma double-cab pickup truck, which was parked in a parking lot at Reed Intermediate School at 3 Trades Lane, was damaged by the impact of another vehicle, whose driver left the scene. Police learned of the damage at about 1:55 pm on November 21.

DUI Rollover

At about 11:59 pm on November 21, motorist Edward Lindbloom, 31, of Naugatuck was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on Bennetts Bridge Road, about 400 feet north of its intersection with Mountain Manor Road, when the truck overturned and landed partially off the right side of the road.

Police said Lindbloom told them that he had swerved to avoid striking a deer.

After investigating, police charged Lindbloom with driving under the influence and with making an improper turn. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Lindbloom to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible injuries. Lindbloom is scheduled to appear in court on December 6 to answer the charges.

Five Charges

Police said they spotted a man driving a red Geo Prizm auto with a plastic bag stretched over the area where the left-rear passenger window would be, while in the parking lot at Walgreens Pharmacy at 49 South Main Street about 10:43 am on November 20. A computerized records check indicated that the Geo had a stolen marker plate on it.

After investigating, police charged the driver of that vehicle, John Periera Carloto , 53, of Ansonia, with sixth-degree larceny, driving with a suspended license, misuse of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Carloto was scheduled to appear in court to answer the charges.

Sandy Hook Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84 about 1:20 pm on November 20.

The accident involved motorist Pamela Taveras, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 2013 Honda Accord, and motorist Robert McKieman, 48, of Greenwich, who was driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned both motorists.

Dodgingtown Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident about 7:41 am on November 19 near 55 Dodgingtown Road.

In that incident on westbound Dodgingtown Road, motorist Ruperta Natal, 34, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima, struck the rear end of a 2017 Toyota vehicle driven by Ana Maria Naveda, no age given, of Port Chester, N.Y.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Naveda to Danbury Hospital to be treated. Natal received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Mile Hill Road South

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Mile Hill Road South, about one-third of a mile north of its intersection with Turkey Hill Road, about 12:39 pm on November 19, police report.

Motorist David Patterson, 41, of Southington was driving a 2009 BMW 335-XI coupe northward, as motorist Donna Marschalk, 66, of Newtown, was driving a 2009 Subaru Impreza southward. The BMW then crossed the road’s center line and struck the Subaru.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Marschalk to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation. Patterson received an infraction for failure to drive to the right on a curve, according to police. (A photo of this accident was published in the November 23 edition of The Newtown Bee).

Flagpole Intersection

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Main Street flagpole intersection at 1:58 pm on November 19.

At the stop sign on westbound Church Hill Road at the intersection, motorist William Gregorio, 18, of Newtown, who was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2018 Audi Q-7 SUV driven by William McCarthy, 50, of Sandy Hook, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Gregorio for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Swamp Road Crash

At about 2:47 pm on November 19, motorist Paulo Almeida, 48, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup truck northward on Swamp Road, as motorist Matthew Kuhar, 26, of Shelton was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southward there, police said.

As the two trucks were passing each other, their left exterior rear-view mirrors collided. Kuhar declined medical attention, police said. Almeida received an infraction for failure to drive to the right on a curve and for driving an unregistered vehicle, according to police.

DUI Charge

While patrolling about 11:57 pm on November 17, police stopped motorist John O’Connor, 44, of Trumbull, on Main Street to investigate. Police said that O’Connor had a child passenger in the vehicle that he was driving.

After investigating, police charged O’Connor with driving under the influence, traveling unreasonably fast, and risk of injury to a child. Following processing, O’Connor was released on $100 bail for a December 4 court appearance.
