Violation of Probation
Police said that after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Donald Butler, 59, of Newtown went to the police station about 10:15 am on January 2 and was charged with violation of probation in connection with a past incident.
Following arrest processing, police released Butler on a written promise to appear in court on January 16.
Arrest Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, William V. Provey, 26, of Sandy Hook went to the police station about 8 pm on January 2 and was charged with violation of probation, police report. The charge stems from a past incident.
Following processing, police released Provey on $5,000 bail for a January 17 appearance in court.
Stalking
Police responded to Wire Road about 8 pm on January 1 following a call informing them of a stalking incident.
A man and woman told police that Steven Valenti, 21, of Middletown, had followed them to Newtown in his vehicle after having had a discussion in Middletown regarding relationship issues. After the couple stopped at a gas station at 67 Church Hill Road, Valenti drove onto nearby Wire Road, left his vehicle there and walked away on foot, police said.
Following a more than four-hour search, police found Valenti and charged him with third-degree stalking and second-degree breach of peace. After processing, police released Valenti on $5,000 non-surety bail for a court appearance later on January 2.
Vehicle Damaged
Police report that sometime between 6 and 6:30 pm on December 31, an unspecified motor vehicle, which was parked behind Toro Restaurant at 28 Church Hill Road, was struck and damaged by an unknown vehicle whose driver then left the scene. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Patrol Officer Adam James at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Evading Responsibility
Police report a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred near the northern end of Swamp Road in Botsford about 2:18 am on December 30.
Motorist Andrew Medina, 30, of Derby, was driving a 2009 Volvo S-40 sedan southward on Swamp Road, as motorist Rory Donohue, 37, of Redding was driving a Honda Civic auto northward there. The Volvo then crossed the road’s centerline and collided head-on with the Honda. Donohue was injured in the collision, according to police.
After the crash, Medina fled the scene on foot and was found later by police. At about 6:45 am, they arrested Medina on charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive to the right. Following arrest processing, Medina posted $200 bail and was released from police custody for a January 10 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
Two MV Charges
Police report they received a call about 4 pm on December 30, informing them of a motor vehicle accident that had occurred near the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84.
After investigating the incident, police charged motorist Xavier Jarama, 37, of Waterbury, with failure to drive in the proper lane and with driving while under suspension. Jarama is scheduled to appear in court on January 17 to answer the charges.
Highway Crash
About 2 pm on December 29, motorist Riannami Alharbi, 31, of New Haven, who was driving a 2006 Ford Taurus sedan westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Frederick Furey, 54, of Yonkers, N.Y., who was driving a 2016 Kia Sedona minivan, state police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported two passengers in the Ford to Danbury Hospital. Furey received an infraction for following too closely.
Four MV Violations
Police report they stopped motorist Joshua Miner, 28, of New Haven, on Berkshire Road near Chestnut Hill Road, about 5:24 pm on December 29, after noticing that the marker plate affixed to the vehicle Miner was driving did not match that vehicle.
Police investigated and then charged Miner with misuse of a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving with a suspended license.
After arrest processing, Miner was released on $100 bail for a January 15 court appearance.
Two Charges
Police report they responded to a Church Hill Road business about 7:13 pm on December 29 after receiving a report that a theft had occurred there.
On arriving, police found the person in question in an adjacent parking lot, after which she became combative and fought with several police officers. Police charged Rebecca Clark, 30, of Monroe with interfering with police and with assault on public safety personnel. After arrest processing, Clark was released for a January 15 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
Red Rooster Pub
Police said they responded to the Red Rooster Pub at 160 South Main Street about 11:57 pm on December 29 after receiving a report concerning an assault there.
After investigating, police charged Maryjane Malachowski-Ciotti, 21, of Monroe, with disorderly conduct, and charged Shannon Reilly, 26, of Danbury with second-degree assault in connection with the incident.
Police released both people on written promises to appear in court on January 10.
I-84 Rear-Ender
State police report that at about 1:25 pm on December 28, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, motorist Brian Coven, 23, of Morristown, N.J., who was driving a 2005 Acura TL sedan, struck the rear end of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra driven by Morgan McNamara, 20, of Danbury.
There were no injuries. Coven received an infraction for following too closely.
Freightliner Vs Pole
Police report that during wet conditions about 2 pm on December 28, Luis Cruz 31, of Bridgeport, was driving a 2014 Freightliner Sprinter delivery truck northward on Castle Hill Road, about 170 feet south of Old Castle Hill Road, when the vehicle skidded on wet pavement and struck a utility pole.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Cruz for traveling too fast for conditions.
Chevy Vs Rock
At about 1:03 pm on December 27, motorist Ashleigh Garrity, 16, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse SUV southward on Toddy Hill Road, traveled off the right road shoulder, struck a street sign, knocked down a tree, dug up a lawn, and then came to rest on a rock at a property at 32 Button Shop Road, police said.
Neither Garrity nor a passenger were injured. Police verbally warned Garrity for making a restricted turn.
Toyota Hits Pole
Motorist Matthew Lockwood, 22, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, just east of Hanover Road, about 6:53 pm on December 26, when the vehicle drifted off the right side of the street, knocked over a speed-limit sign, and then struck a utility pole, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Lockwood an infraction for making a restricted turn.
Vehicle Stolen
After a long period without a local auto theft, police reported that an unlocked black 2010 Audi A-4 auto was stolen overnight on December 26/27 from a residential driveway on High Rock Road, south of its intersection with New Lebbon Road. Police are investigating. Police urge residents to keep their vehicles locked when unattended to deter theft.
DUI Incident
State police said they received a report concerning an erratically driven vehicle traveling on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 10:30 pm on December 25, which had struck guardcabling on the highway’s median, so they went to the area to investigate.
State police found the Honda Civic in question and investigated, charging motorist Divaneis Viana DeJesus, 47, of Danbury with driving under the influence, driving without a license, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
After arrest processing, state police released DeJesus from custody on $500 bail for a January 15 court appearance.
Three Vehicles
Police report a traffic accident involving three vehicles on northbound South Main Street, about 500 feet north of its intersection with Elizabeth Street, about 11:37 am on December 19.
In that incident, motorist Mackenzie Macchiarulo, 19, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Subaru Forester SUV, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan driven by Thomas Wray, 51, of Newtown, police said. The Dodge was then struck from behind by a 2014 Honda Civic driven by Michael Viesto, 21, of Newtown, police said.
There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned both Wray and Viesto for following too closely.
