Two Charges

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Sarah Lewis, 38, of Sandy Hook went to the police station about 3 pm on January 16 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past motor violation, police said.

Police said that a records check indicated that there was another warrant pending against Lewis, after which they also charged her with sixth-degree larceny in connection with an alleged shoplifting incident in September at Caraluzzi’s Market at 5 Queen Street.

After processing, police released Lewis for a January 30 court appearance.

Four Violations

Police stopped motorist Stephanie Tomcic, 28, of New Britain, about 9:52 pm on January 13, near Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp to investigate.

Police said they charged Tomcic with driving an unregistered vehicle, improper use of marker plates, failure to have automotive insurance, and driving with a suspended license. Tomcic posted $160 bail and was released for a January 30 court appearance.

Three Charges

Police said they stopped motorist Rodney Morrison, 23, of Bridgeport, about 7:11 pm on January 12 near Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp to investigate.

Police charged Morrison with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Morrison was released for a January 25 court appearance.

Lengthy Closure

A one-vehicle a accident on Castle Hill Road, near its intersection with King Street, that occurred about 8:28 pm on January 12, resulted in Castle Hill Road being closed to through-traffic in that area until about 10 am on January 13 while electrical repairs were underway, according to police.

Motorist Thomas Venturino, 31, of Newtown, who was driving a 2013 Subaru Impreza compact car on Castle Hill Road, swerved to avoid hitting a deer, but then struck a utility pole, breaking the pole, police said. The pole required replacement.

Neither Venturino nor Subaru passenger Rachel Donnelly, 35, of Bethel, were injured. Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members responded to the scene.

Detours were in effect until the roadway was reopened following electrical repairs. Venturino received an infraction for making an improper turn, police said.

Mile Hill Road

Police report that at about 7:15 pm on January 11, motorist Arden Williams, 64, of Brookfield was driving a 2010 Infiniti G-37 auto eastward on Mile Hill Road and then signaled to make a right turn onto Tinkerfield Road.

Eastbound motorist Dianna Douglas, 51, of Newtown, who was driving a 2019 Acura TLX sedan behind the Infiniti, thought that the Infiniti was making a left turn onto Queen Street and then attempted to pass the Infiniti on the right, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.

There were no injuries. Douglas received an infraction for improper passing, according to police.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Ryan Danion 27, of Danbury, went to the police station about 6 pm on January 10 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, police said.

The warrant stems from Danion’s failure to either plead guilty and pay a fine or alternately to plead not guilty to an infraction that he received as a result on an incident that occurred on June 25, 2018 near the intersection of South Main Street and Elm Drive.

After arrest processing, police released Danion from their custody on $500 bail for a January 24 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Drug Overdose

According to a posting on the police department’s Facebook webpage, at about 10 pm on January 10, police were dispatched to the intersection of Cedar Hill Road and Bari Drive to investigate a report that a vehicle there had been stopped at a stop sign for approximately 20 minutes. The person who noticed the situation called police, considering the matter suspicious.

After police arrived, they found a man in his early 20s slumped over and unresponsive inside the vehicle.

Suspecting that a drug overdose had occurred, police broke a window on the vehicle and then administered the narcotics antidote known as Narcan to the unresponsive man, reviving him.

The unidentified man was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation, according to police. The incident is under investigation.

Object Hits Chevy

State police report that at about 11:27 am on January 9, while traveling on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse SUV being driven by Nicole Kullgren, 40, of Sandy Hook, was struck on its glass sunroof by some unknown object, causing the sunroof to crack.

There were no injuries. A search of the area did not locate the object that struck the vehicle, state police said.

Knife Found

Police report that at about 2:30 pm on January 9, a person found a knife in a black case near Plymouth Hall on the Fairfield Hills campus. Police are holding the knife for safekeeping.

Traffic Accident

Police report a two-vehicle collision on westbound Wasserman Way, near the Exit 11 ramps for Interstate 84, about 5:49 pm on January 9.

In that incident, motorist Marcus Deoliveira-Nascimento, 39, of Danbury, who was driving a commercial 2004 GMC Savana van, struck the rear end of a 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan driven by Linda Guzzardi Connolly, 51, of Brookfield.

There were no injuries. Deoliveira-Nascimento received an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle and also was verbally warned for following too closely.
