Warrant

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for her arrest, Mary Katherine Kelly, 27, of Newtown went to the police station on the evening on March 6 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.

A judge in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury issued that warrant after Kelly had failed to make a scheduled appearance in court on December 3, 2018. Pending in court against Kelly are three motor vehicle charges stemming from a one-vehicle accident that occurred early on the morning of December 31, 2017, on Dinglebrook Lane. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

After arrest processing on March 6, police released Kelly on $500 bail for a March 20 court appearance.

Simm Lane

Police report that at about 10:03 am on March 5, motorist Shari Kelly, 62, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 Honda CR-V SUV, was attempting to enter Simm Lane as motorist Peter Carlson, Jr, 38, of New Milford was driving a 2012 Ford Transit truck on Simm Lane.

The vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Kelly a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Ford Vs Lightpost

State police report that motorist Vincent Venitelli, 65, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2009 Ford Focus auto on the Exit 11 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 at about 7:13 am on March 4, when the auto spun out of control and struck a lightpost on the left road shoulder.

Venitelli reported minor pain but declined medical attention. He received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hawleyville Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Barnabas Road about 4:57 pm on March 4.

The collision involved motorist Robert Saleski, 72, of Newtown, who was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, and motorist Warren Hengel, 53, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Saab 9-3 auto, police said.

Hengel, who reported pain, told police he would go to New Milford Hospital on his own. Saleski received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

SUV Hits Tree

During snowy conditions about 8:53 pm on March 3, motorist Timothy Matijcio, 31, of Newtown, who was driving a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV southward on a snow-covered Hanover Road, about 2,000 north of its intersection with Echo Valley Road, was negotiating a curve in the road when the Honda drove off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said.

Matijcio was checked at the scene for injuries but refused ambulance transport. Police verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Three New Charges

After being informed that police held a warrant for his arrest, Andrew Medina, 30, of Monroe, went to the police station on the morning of March 2 and was arrested on three charges, police said.

Police charged Medina with interfering with police, falsely reporting an incident, and with making a false statement to police. The three charges stem from a January 1 incident during which Medina allegedly made a false report to police.

Following arrest processing, Medina was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court on March 15.

The three charges against Medina are an outgrowth of a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred near the northern end of Swamp Road in Botsford early on the morning of December 30, 2018, according to police. After that crash, motorist Medina allegedly fled the scene on foot and was later found by police. In that incident, Medina was arrested on charges of evading responsibility and failure to drive to the right.

Highway Accident

A two-vehicle crash occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 11 off-ramp, about 6:07 pm on March 1.

State police said motorist Juan Lojasaula, 30, of New York City, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Nissan was struck from behind by a 2007 Hyundai Sonata driven by Shelton Lashley, 40, of Springfield, Mass. There were no injuries. Lashley received an infraction for following too closely.

Vehicular Violation

Police report that at about 2:34 pm on February 27, they stopped motorist Dylan Kermode, 26, of Danbury, to investigate near 220 South Main Street in Botsford.

Police issued Kermode a violation for improper use of marker plates. Kermode is scheduled to appear in court on March 13, according to police.

Flagpole Crash

About 4:45 pm on February 27, during the evening rush period, motorist Richard Yacko, 72, of Monroe, who was driving a 2013 Ford Explorer XLT SUV westward on Church Hill Road, attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, but then struck the unprotected 100-foot-tall flagpole that stands in the middle of the five-way intersection there, police said.

Yacko reported pain but did not want medical treatment. A passenger was not injured. Police verbally warned Yacko for a traffic rotary violation. (A photo of this accident appeared in the March 1 print edition of The Newtown Bee.)

Rear-Ender

A motor vehicle accident occurred about 10:05 am on February 12 on Church Hill Road, near the driveway entrance to Caraluzzi’s Market, police said.

In that incident, a 1993 Gruman LLV US Postal Service mail delivery truck driven by Nichole Callhan, 31, of Terryville, struck the rear end of a 2011 Honda Accord driven by Tania Stergue, 49, of Sandy Hook. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Callahan for following too closely.
