MV Violations

Police report that at about 11:55 am on March 12, near 12 Berkshire Road, they stopped motorist Jerry Junes, 29, of Stratford to investigate.

Police charged Junes with driving an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of marker plates, and failure to have automotive insurance. Junes was released for a March 26 court appearance.

Asleep At Wheel

State police report that motorist Victor Manuel Santiago-Jimenez, 28, of Port Richey, Fla., was driving a 2011 Honda Accord auto carrying four passengers on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, when he fell asleep at the wheel, and then drove off the road and into a snowbank about 3:53 am on March 9.

There were no injuries. Santiago-Jimenez failed to maintain the proper lane, state police said.

SUV Vs Truck

At about 5:04 am on March 8 on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, motorist Brian McNeill, 24, of Danbury, who was driving a 2011 Honda CR-V SUV, struck the rear end of a 2016 Freightliner truck driven by Danny Keeling, 45, of Vale, N.C., state police said.

McNeill received minor injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Compact Vs Van

A two-vehicle accident occurred on southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Mile Hill Road about 10:11 am on March 8.

Motorist Anthony Patavino, 30, of Seymour, who was driving a 1997 Honda Civic, struck the rear end of a 2015 Chevrolet City Express van driven by Roy Rodriques, 66, of Newtown, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Patavino an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Ice Hits SUV

While traveling on eastbound Interstate 84, near Rochambeau Bridge, about 12:57 pm on March 7, a chunk of ice dislodged from the roof of a 2017 Freightliner M-2106 truck driven by Rocky Joseph, 31, of Central Falls, R.I., and then struck the left exterior rear-view mirror of a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by Jennifer Allo, 42, of Southbury, state police said.

The impact broke the mirror’s housing. There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Joseph for driving with an unsecured load.

Mazda Hits Rails

At about 5:39 am on March 5, motorist Bertha Castro, 30, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 auto eastward on Interstate 84, about two miles west of Exit 10, lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road, and struck some gurdrailing, according to state police.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Castro to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a pain complaint. State police said Castro failed to maintain the proper lane.

Ice Onto Windshield

State police report that at about 9 am on March 5, a chunk of ice detached from the roof of a trailer being hauled by a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Larry Prescott, 70, of Meriden, and then struck the windshield of a 2008 Toyota Corolla sedan driven Timothy Morin 36, of Milford, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9.

Morin received a possible injury but declined medical attention, state police said. Prescott was verbally warned for driving a vehicle with an unsecured load. Morin received a misdemeanor summons for driving with a suspended license, state police said. Morin was released on a written promise to appear in court on March 18.
