Colonial Life Workshop For Kids

Did you ever wonder what life was really like 200 years ago?

Students will have a chance to find out on Thursday, November 11 (Veteran’s Day, so there is no school) when Newtown Historical Society presents “Colonial Life,” a one hour hands-on workshop just for kids. The workshop will be held at the Matthew Curtiss House Museum, at 44 Main Street in Newtown.

How did people keep warm? Where did children go to school? What did they do for fun? These and many other questions will be posed and answered by Barbara Fichlenholtz of the Connecticut Historical Society. A whole Colonial world will unfold as kids are transported in time through interactive discussion and “show and tell.”

Children will be able to handle Colonial objects such as powder horns, footwarmers and wool carders. Colonial-style garments will also be available for students to try on.

The workshop will be held from 11 am to noon, with a second session added from 12:30 to 1:30 pm if demand warrants. This event is open to all elementary school students and is free of charge. Space is limited so early registration is encouraged.

Register by calling Newtown Historical Society at 426-5937.
