Carrying Out 'The People's Business'
Carrying Out âThe Peopleâs Businessâ
To the Editor:
The people have spoken, and it was in the form of applause this past Wednesday during the Legislative Council meeting. The Charter changes will be on this Novemberâs ballot in the form of five questions. Bravo to all the like-minded council members!
Iâm certain the Legislative Council is happy to get that item off of their agenda. The process, which has gone its course over the past 11 months, has been incredible. There have been numerous differences in opinions, and many compromises. The path has not been the easiest. The Legislative Council chairman and vice chairman had very well spoken closing comments regarding each of their positions just prior to the final 9 to 3 vote. They were opposed, and thatâs their position. Their comments were personal and from the heart, and did provide a dignified closing to this chapter in the Legislative Council. They, and the entire Legislative Council should be commended for carrying out the peopleâs business within the ballot deadline.
Iâm looking forward to the next two months. There will be many opportunities to present the charter details, and to further educate the electorate. I look forward to being part of that process, and in succeeding to improve Newtownâs system of government. Vote YES on all charter questions this November 6.
