Moon Jumpers Jump Rope Team Wins Multiple Medals
This past weekend, the Moon Jumpers Jump Rope Team, Newtownâs only jump rope team, traveled to New Hampshire to participate in the White Mountain Jump Rope Jamboree in Conway. Eight jumpers from the team competed in several events and participated in a skill-building workshop.
Gabe DeCastro, Brianna DelGiudice, Doug Raigosa, and Kristina Patterson won first place in the Double Dutch Speed Pairs event for fifth and sixth grade novice. In the Individual Rope Freestyle event, Olyvia Shaw won first place for third grade novice, and Doug Raigosa won third place for fifth grade novice. The team of Brianna DelGiudice, Doug Raigosa, and Payge Shaw won second place in the Double Dutch Freestyle event for fifth and sixth grade novice. Elizabeth Hodge was chosen for the award recognizing the team member who has worked hard and shown great team spirit throughout the year.
The Moon Jumpers team, affiliated with Newtown Parks and Recreation, is for kids in second grade and up who want to learn more about jump rope. There team will be holding a car wash on Saturday, June 13, and a lemonade stand on Sunday, June 14, as fundraisers. Both events will be from 1pm until 3 pm at 169 Sugar Street (Route 302).
