Dedication Ceremony To Welcome Public
To New Municipal Center
Shadow-drenched dusty rooms inside the former Bridgeport Hall are now brightly lit offices where ringing phones and answering voices echo. Doors slide open across new tiles where town staff has relocated to what is now the Newtown Municipal Center in Fairfield Hills.
Already operating for several weeks, the weekend will find a host of town officials gathered at the buildingâs dedication ceremony, then welcoming curious residents down the freshly painted halls and through new spaces.
On Saturday, November 21, a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 pm will officially open the municipal center. Selectman Herb Rosenthal, first selectman when plans for renovations began, will make some opening remarks. First Selectman Joe Borst and First Selectman-elect Pat Llodra will follow. The building is also being prepped for Governor M. Jodi Rellâs visit next week. On Monday, November 23, at 10 am, Governor Rell is scheduled to swear in Mrs Llodra as Newtownâs incoming first selectman, and will also perform a ceremonial swearing in of all other recently elected and reelected officials. Her office confirmed this week that, âwhile Governor Rell will be on a tight schedule Monday, she is pleased to be coming to welcome the communityâs newly elected officials.â By Charter, the new administration takes office on December 1.
The public can tour the new suites until 4 pm this Saturday, where they will find the first selectmanâs office, town clerk, probate office, land use, health department, Board of Education, registrars, assessor, tax collector, and other employees gathered from prior locations in the Edmond Town Hall and Kendro Building on Peckâs Lane.
The offices have been operating from the new location since late October and early November.
