Helen Gordon McHugh

Longtime Local Educator

Helen Gordon McHugh of Fairfield, 90, a longtime local educator, died in her home, June 7. Born in Bridgeport on September 6, 1918, she was the daughter of Paul and Minna Gottlieb Gordon.

She was predeceased by her husband Bam McHugh, and is survived her two sons, Robert McHugh of Sandy Hook and Jeffrey McHugh of Fairfield; a brother; three grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

During World War II she worked at Remington Arms in Bridgeport. After the war Mrs McHugh worked as a teacher and assistant principal at Bassick High School, the director of guidance and personnel for the Bridgeport Schools, and as an assistant superintendent of schools in Bridgeport.

After her retirement she was an avid golfer, and volunteered with the Visiting Nurses Association of Bridgeport and the Barnum Festival.

Interment will be private.
