BETHEL - It's never over 'til it's over.
BETHEL â Itâs never over âtil itâs over.
Yogi Berra had it right . . . as the Newtown Babe Ruth 9-year-old All Stars found out this week in the first round of the Bethel Jimmy Fund Tournament. Trailing by four runs in the sixth inning, Newtown battled back from a two out, two strike, bases empty predicament to beat Bethel, 16-11.
Sparked by Ryan Cahalaneâs steal of home and hits by Tyler Edwards, Kyle Kromberg and Nicky Tarantino, Newtown tied the game and sent it into extra innings. In the top of the seventh, Jeff DiNicola, Ralph Sergiovanni, Fedak, George Zaruba, Jeff Spencer and Michael Coates launched a barrage of hits to put five runs on the board.
Three shutout innings of relief by Joe Fedak kept Bethel in check. Fedak closed out the game in the seventh.
Newtown will go on to meet New Fairfield Saturday at 8:30 am.
