Annual Art Show Returns To Sherman This Weekend

SHERMAN — The Sherman Art Show will celebrate its 36th anniversary with a weekend exhibit at Sherman Firehouse, August 17 to 19.

The show and sale presents paintings and crafts by more than 80 artists, assuring a diverse exhibit of paintings ranging in style from the realistic to the abstract. Crafts covering many media, which are decorative, whimsical or utilitarian, will also be presented.

A popular feature of the art show are works in portfolio. Jane Carlson will show matted original paintings of Connecticut landscapes, and other artists will have portfolios of watercolors, etchings, woodcuts, oils on wood and photography, a medium artists have made a fine art.

For many years Sherman Art Show has been a source for the lithographs of Richard Schmid. A limited number of his reproductions will be on view this year. Paintings by such distinguished artists as Mel Crawford, Jack Grasso, Woldemar Neufeld, John Swastly, are also part of the exhibit, as will be prints of their work. What may prove to be the last available reproductions by the later Eric Sloane will also be in the portfolio presentation this year.

Sherman Art Show has free admission and welcomes all browsers or patrons who wish to see, in an informal setting, the art of today. The beneficiary of all sales is Sherman Higher Education Fund, a long existing entity which aids young people with college expenses.

The firehouse located at the junction of Routes 37 and 39. Exhibit hours are from 10 am to 5:30 pm each day. Show chairman Kita Czap can be contacted at 860-354-2593 for additional information.
