To Open New Season

On Thursday, September 15, Flagpole Photographers will launch their 2011-12 season.

The club will meet at 7:30 pm, at the C.H. Booth Library Meeting Room, 25 Main Street in Newtown, for the first competition of the year. The competition has three categories: Open Color, Open Black and White, and Assigned Subject. The Assigned Subject for September is “Nature.”

Any photographs submitted in the Nature Category must meet rigorous standards set forth by the Photographic Society of America as outlined on the Flagpole Photographers website (FlagpolePhotographers.com)

The public is welcome to attend the competition but you must be a member to enter. All photos will receive commentary by a qualified judge from a neighboring photography club.

Flagpole Photographers is a local non-profit group that enable members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers. Members come from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professional photographers. The group meetings monthly, September through June.

Monthly print competitions are held at Booth Library on the third Thursday of the month, except where otherwise noted in our schedule.

Additionally, the club will begin hosting hands-on learning programs this season, meeting at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

All meetings start at 7:30 pm. All dates, assigned subjects, and programs are included in the schedule on our website.

In the spring, the club presents its annual exhibit, when images of the year awards are designated.

Dues are $30 per person or $50 for a family membership. Students may join at no charge.  Many members also participate in community service outreach projects such as the Help Portrait event held annually in December.
