Life Savers
To the Editor:
To each person and EMS who potentially risked their own lives in coming to my aid at the scene of my morning of August 26, 2015 blue Harley Davidson motorcycle crash into the guardrail at the intersection of Hawleyville and Mt Pleasant Roads, I want to tell you (very late in coming) how extremely grateful I am for you being there.
My actions put you in a situation that could have potentially caused you injury or even your own death from being struck by other vehicles on the road, etc. I am sorry. I cannot recall how any people at the scene looked when I was lying on the ground, but the sound of your voices saying "where does it hurt" are very, very clear to me.
It's not speculation, you coming to my aid saved my life. Not only my life but you saved my loved family and friends from the sorrow my death could have caused
When the doctors at Danbury and Yale New Haven Hospitals examined me and saw the actual extent of the injuries, they said I was extremely fortunate to even be alive because the pelvic fracture and abdominal impact I sustained kill many people. Your actions and decisions at the scene made the difference. They said it was amazing I did not hit my head without a helmet. There was the potential for serious back injury that could have happened to me had you not been there and done the right thing.
The good news is now that so many people came to my aid, my functioning is almost back to the way it was before. You will not have to risk yourselves again for me because the totaled motorcycle has been replaced by walking a terrific pet dog adopted from DAWS in Bethel.
Sincerely,
Francis Spencer
