Oxford’s 36th Arts And Crafts Show

Oxford’s 36th Annual Arts and Crafts Show will take place at Oxford Center School, 462 Oxford Road, Route 67, on Saturday, November 3, from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

Returning to the show is quilling artist Basil Hanna of Waterbury who has been working with this medium since the 1970s.

Quillwork began in medieval times, when religious persons recycled worn out Bibles and prayer books by cutting them into thin strips, then curling and shaping the bits into designs that they glued on other religious works for decoration. The craft got its name from the feather quills that the monks and nuns used for winding their papers. Hanna finds inspiration for his creations in coloring books and illustrations of all kinds, from flowers, and from his imagination.

Other handcrafted items featured on November 3 will be herbal creations, hand painted accessories, jewelry, and folk art. Pottery, dried flower arrangements, metal sculpture, oil paintings and homespun yarns and hand knits will also be for sale. Additional offerings include pressed flowers, soap, stationery, and woodcrafts.
