Discrete American Narratives
Discrete American Narratives
NEW HAVEN â Creative Arts Workshop is presenting âDiscrete American Narratives,â a two-person exhibition featuring paintings by Steve DiGiovanni and photographs by Hank Paper, through April 23.
Through traditional media, Mr DiGiovanni and Mr Paper capture Americans as they are today, borrowing eclectically from pop culture, combining realism, spontaneity and fantasy, and capturing images and settings that help define the turning points in which society currently find themselves.
Mr DiGiovanniâs paintings straddle a line between representing narratives and representing things, and depict a âfilm-noirâ version of reality. The artist exhibits widely throughout Connecticut and the Northeast, and teaches at Creative Arts Workshop and throughout Connecticut.
The street and landscape photography of Mr Paper, who is Hamden-based, tend to be whimsical, offbeat and upbeat, and many are like short narratives. He has shot locally and around the world, and has exhibited widely from Jerusalem to North Carolina to New York. His photographs have been published in various magazines, and some are on permanent display at the Caledonia Fine Arts Gallery in Ivoryton.
Creative Arts Workshop is at 80 Audubon Street. For information call 203-562-4927.
