GBS To Present Free Concert

Under The Stars

FAIRFIELD — A blockbuster Pops concert, featuring Broadway hits, patriotic tunes, opera favorites, and light classics, will thrill audiences of all ages at Greater Bridgeport Symphony’s (GBS) free outdoor performance on Saturday, June 30, at 8 pm.

This year’s concert will take place in front of DiMenna-Nyselius Library, at Fairfield University. The site’s expansive, rolling lawn can easily accommodate the anticipated audience of 10,000.

The concert will feature the return engagement of guest conductor Matthew Savery, who has captivated audiences with his charm and talent in this annual event for the past decade. The program will also present the young soprano Jennifer Marshall, winner of the Barnum Festival’s 2006 Jenny Lind Competition, and the 50-member GBS Orchestra.

A pre-concert program at 6:30 pm will feature Golden Angels Jazz Band. The nine-member group has performed time-honored Dixieland, roaring twenties favorites, and swing era classics throughout Westchester, Fairfield and New Haven counties.

Concertgoers are encouraged to come early to set up picnic baskets, blankets, or beach chairs. There are no food concessions on campus. Gates will open at 5:30 pm, and shuttle buses will run continuously from the parking lots on campus to the concert site. No pets are allowed on campus.

In case of rain, the concert will take place on Sunday, July 1, at the same times.

Fairfield University is on North Benson Road, one half mile north of the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95), off Exit 22. (Note: Due to the concert, DiMenna-Nyselius Library will close early on Saturday, June 30.)
