Rock Ridge Country Club golf (and tennis) highlights from this past week are as follows:

Rock Ridge held its annual Pings & Strings Tournament during the July 4th weekend. This event pairs four team members — two men and two women — together for a nine-hole scramble golf tournament and a doubles tennis tournament.

Each event has point values for first, second and third place. The cumulative point totals crown an overall champion. The event was made possible by Head Golf Professional Bill Flood and Tennis Director Morne van Staden.

Men’s Thursday Night Quota League Winners

First: Mike Portnoy

Second: John Kortze & Jeff Fetchick

Third: Vin Palumbo        

Mike Portnoy pulled away the field this week in Thursday Night Quota League action to take home first place. He had a score of +6 points. John Kortze and Jeff Fetchick posted a +3 point total to take home second place. With this victory, Portnoy now takes the lead in the season long points race for the 2009 Men’s League championship.
