Support For The Memorial Walkway
To the Editor:
We wish to acknowledge the widespread support which has been given to the Fund for the Memorial Walkway, which we envision will one day pass from the Flagpole in Newtown to the Center of Sandy Hook and sustain the spirit of unity created by the tragedy of December 2012. We also wish to thank the many people who have shared in helping to begin this endeavor.
As of this time there have been more than 70 contributions to the Walkway Fund from individuals both within Newtown and beyond including, many alumni of our school system. Donations have come from 10 different states and included such diverse groups as “The Supporters of Paul Sorace” of Bayonne, NJ who ran a marathon for 26 Angels in April 2013; and the Nurses Association of Alaska in Anchorage; The Horace Mann Companies serving educators throughout the nation made a substantial contribution.
The first phase of the Walkway will be accomplished this fall. It is hoped that the continuing generosity of the community will enable its completion in the months ahead.
