Virginia C. Soares

Virginia Cecelia Soares, 69, of Stratford, died on May 20 in her residence after a long battle with cancer.

She was the sister of Maria Pavone of Newtown.

Born in Bridgeport on October 31, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas V. Soares, Sr, and Theresa (Bilardo) Soares, and was a Stratford resident for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Warren Harding High School Class of 1949 and retired as a secretary from Warnaco. Ms Soares had great courage and spirit as she faced life’s challenges and will be sadly missed by family and friends to whom she will always be an inspiration.

Survivors also include three other sisters, Filomena DiCosmo of Stratford, Margaret Minotti and her husband, Michael, Sr, of Bridgeport, and Genevieve (Jeanne) Spata and her husband, Victor, Sr, of Stratford; two brothers, Nicholas V. Soares, Jr, and his wife, Viola, of Easton, and Joseph Soares and his wife, Maureen, of Fairfield; two aunts, Angelina Caruso of Bridgeport and Rose Lorenti of Hamden; an uncle, Tony Bilardo of Fayetteville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held May 24 from Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road in Trumbull, and in St James Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in St Michael Cemetery, Stratford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral director.
