Meshed Carpet At Atlantic

SAGAMORE, MASS. -- The Atlantic Auction Gallery reported a standing-room only

crowd at the firm's second annual New Years Day Extravaganza. Two hundred

thirty three bidders and 57 phone bidders competed for a total of 330 lots.

A room-sized Meshed carpet brought $5,000 after a battle on the phones; an

Eighteenth Century marble top console fetched $4,000 from a buyer in Ireland;

and a Nineteenth Century burl bookcase with bookmatched facade garnered

$2,050.

An unusual mahogany Russian pier table, with inlaid lyre supports, attained

$5,000; a large 7« foot gilt pier mirror reached $1,100; several lots of Bowen

Audubons topped the $200 mark; Charles X candlesticks fetched $625; and a

Queen Anne courting mirror commanded $850.
