State Suspends Alcohol Sales At Local Package Store
Due to a past rule violation involving the sale of alcohol to a minor, the State Liquor Commission suspended the alcohol sales permit of a local package store for a three-day period.
The State Liquor Commission banned alcohol sales at Newtown Wine & Spirits from February 7 through 9. The package store also paid an $800 fine.
The suspension follows the storeâs illegal sale of alcohol to a minor and the storeâs failure to meet requirements concerning age statement forms, which were observed during an alcohol sting operation conducted last May by town police and state liquor officials.
Town police and state liquor officials conducted the alcohol sting operation at 13 local establishments that sell alcohol over-the-counter to the public. Those businesses include package stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores.
Only one of those businesses â Newtown Wine & Spirits â sold alcohol to an underage undercover agent working for the state liquor agency, according to police.
