Kids Can Be A ‘Summer Friend’ At Ashlar

Children aged eight to 12 will have the opportunity to become a “summer friend” during an intergenerational camp program sponsored by Ashlar of Newtown.

During July and August, children will become friends with residents of Ashlar of Newtown and Lockwood Lodge, the assisted living residence, because they will go to the camp, too.

Each day is planned to provide a balance of intergenerational activities and age related children’s activities. Children and adults will participate in arts and crafts projects, indoor and outdoor games, picnics, and nature walks.

Children ages 11 and 12, if interested, can begin training to become junior volunteers.

There are three camp sessions, July 2 to 13 (no camp on July 4), July 16 to 27, and July 30 to August 10. All sessions run from 9 am to 3 pm. Early bird hours are offered from 7 to 9 am.

For more information about “Summer Friends,” call Hilda DeLucia, community resources manager at Ashlar of Newtown, at 203-364-3127.
