Skier Jordan Conrad Wins Mayor Of Freeride Award
Newtown’s Jordan Conrad recently returned from Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, where the skier won the Mayor of Freeride award, an accomplishment for his efforts in the North American, United States, and Canadian freeride community. Last year, Conrad earned the Freeskiers Flyin’ Ryan Spirit Award.
Votes were tallied from freeride community. The Mayor of Freeride is a peer-nominated annual award in honor of the late International Free Skiers Association (IFSA) head judge and president Jim Norm Jack.
The nomination came due to Conrad’s “endless passion for freeride and his fellow athletes, radiant personality that celebrates life on and off the snow, contagious attitude of good vibes and sportsmanship, and keen concern and guidance of younger freeriders,” according to the IFSA website, freeskiers.org.
A skier out of Mad River Glen in Waitsfield, Vermont, Conrad competed in the 15-18-year-old division at the IFSA North American Junior Freeride Championships.
He came in third at his home mountain competition in March, Mad River Glen's Ryan Hawks Memorial, Junior National Freeride Event. That third-place result at Mad River earned him enough points to qualify for the NorAms, North American IFSA Freeride Junior Tour championships.
The IFSA had 2,267 juniors, across all age groups under 18, competing in 2019. Only about ten percent of those skiers were invited to the championships.
