SWC Playoffs Open With Lacrosse And Softball Pushed To Monday

Update: The volleyball championship match will be between Newtown and the winner of Joel Barlow and Oxford following a tiebreaker match for second place.

The South-West Conference playoffs will begin Thursday, May 16, and Newtown High School's girls' and boys' lacrosse teams will host quarterfinal-round games at Blue & Gold Stadium.

Lacrosse: Newtown's girls are the No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 Weston at 5 pm. The NHS boys are also the No. 2 seed and will entertain No. 7 Bethel at 7 o'clock. Semifinals for the girls will take place Monday, May 20 and the championship is set for Wednesday, May 22; the boys' semis are to be held Tuesday, May 21 with the championship on Thursday, May 23 (times/locations to be determined).

Baseball And Softball: On the diamonds, baseball and softball quarters have been moved from Saturday to Monday, May 20. Seedings will be set once regular-season makeup games are played at the end of this week. Semis are Tuesday and finals on Thursday, May 21 and 23. Baseball semis and the championship will be at either Bethel High or Penders Field in Stratford, and the softball semis and finals will be held on DeLuca Field in Stratford.

Tennis: Newtown's boys' tennis players will compete in the SWC individual tourney at Wolfe Park in Monroe, Thursday, May 16 and Monday, May 20. The girls' tourney will take place the same days, at Joel Barlow in Redding.

Track and field: The track and field teams will compete in the championships at Weston High on Monday, May 20, beginning at 3 pm.

Volleyball: Newtown High's boys' volleyball team is the top seed and will host either Joel Barlow or Oxford both finished 5-3 and will play a tiebreaker game, in the SWC championship game, Friday, May 24 at 6 pm.

Golf: Girls' and boys' golf championships are scheduled for Tuesday, May 28 — the girls at Brownson Country Club in Shelton at 8 am, and the boys at Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury at 8:30 am.
