Softball Team Eliminated By Hatters

Seeded 17th in the Class LL state bracket, Newtown High School's softball team took the short trip to Danbury to face the No. 16 Hatters in first-round action on May 29.

Newtown lost 10-2, ending a strong season that saw the Nighthawks post a regular-season record of 13-7.

Kendra Saunders drove in both Nighthawks runs, scoring Jackie Moccio each time with singles. Moccio had two hits, and Katie Goyda, Taylor McPadden, and Natalie Horn all had base hits.

The Hatters mustered only seven hits but capitalized on six walks, a hit batter, and nine combined wild pitches/passed balls.

Newtown loses Kim Buttery, Sienna Cummings, Heather Stroili, Moccio, and Saunders to graduation.
