Waldorf School Holds Annual Michaelmas Festival

The Housatonic Valley Waldorf School held its annual Michaelmas Festival, which honors St Michael, a mythical dragon-slayer who bears a mighty iron sword, on Tuesday, September 25, and Friday, September 28.

St Michael’s legend, according to the school, symbolizes the autumnal resurgence of human strength, willpower, and striving to overcome the inner dragons of laziness, greed, doubt, fear of the future, and forgetfulness.

Every September the school honors the Michaelmas Festival with songs, games, and a play performed by the grade school students.

For the early childhood students at the school, the Michaelmas Festival was marked on Tuesday, with a puppet play and more.

The grade school students marked Michaelmas on Friday, with an obstacle course, singing traditional Michaelmas songs, and traditional games. A blacksmith was also on the campus on Friday to work with the upper grades.

Parents were invited to the school for both days.
