Former Newtown Police Officer
Robert J. Wrabel, Sr, 68, former Newtown police officer and avid sportsman, died in Newport, Vt., on October 16. He was born on April 24, 1937, to Edna Wilson Wrabel and Rudolph Wrabel, Sr.
Mr Wrabel was the beloved husband of the late Jeannie Elkins Wrabel, formerly of Newtown.
He is survived by his son, Robert Wrabel, Jr, of Westfield, Vt., his two granddaughters; and his sister, Susan Tompkins of Newtown.
He was a proud member of the Newtown Police Department, its first K-9 officer and initiator of the first Lake Authority Patrol. He also served as a police officer for the town of Wilmington, Vt., before relocating to Boca Raton, Fla., where he was a highway construction inspector for the County of Palm Beach.
After retirement he returned to Vermont in 1998 where he built a home and pursued his passion for hunting and fishing.
Services were held on Friday, October 21. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Troy, Vt. Interment was at North Hill Cemetery, Westfield, Vt.
