Newtown opened the Babe Ruth District 4 Tournament with a 7-4 win over Ridgefield as Brian Shimko went 4-for-4, Mike Chapin and Brian Pennarola went 2-for-4, and Colin OâConnor rapped a pair of doubles.
Billy Spencer chipped in with a double and Tom Selleck had two singles. Jeff Peterson scored a key run with some fine base running. Robert DeFilippe and Joe Collins (a running catch in left field) sparked the defense.
Sean Ryan, Danny Murdoch, Jesse Furphy, and Spencer combined on a nifty three hitter.
