The Natural Wonders Of Connecticut
The Natural Wonders Of Connecticut
DERBY â On its surface Connecticut may seem tame, but look closely and you will find a state where incredible discoveries about geology, palcontology, and ecology have been made for centuries. Today, the combination of its small size and incredible past makes Connecticut an extraordinary place to explore natural history.
The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society in cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protectionâs (DEP) Kellogg Environmental Center will host a program highlighting many local discoveries and places across the state where Connecticutâs past comes to life on Tuesday, October 18, at 7:30 pm.
Presented by author and publisher Brendan Hanrahan, âExploring Connecticutâs Natural Wondersâ will describe tales few have heard, but are easily rediscovered, often in no more time than it takes to pull off a highway to eat lunch.
Book signing and sale will immediately follow the talk. The 50-minute presentation will be illustrated with color slides.
Mr Hanrahanâs talk is based on material developed for a series of guides to the natural history of Connecticut published in June. The four books in The Road to Discovery Series each explain different aspects of the stateâs natural history and describe day trips to interesting sites throughout the state.
Mr Hanrahan drew upon his training in biology and English as a student at Reed College, and subsequent experience as a writer and journalist, to complete the project.
Kellogg Environmental Center is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue (off Route 34). For information call 734-2513.
