Gail Neylan Shaker

Loving Daughter, Sister, Companion

Gail Neylan Shaker, 49, of Newtown, died April 14 in Danbury Hospital surrounded by her family.

Ms Shaker was born in New Haven on September 14, 1959, a daughter of Lea (McDermott) Neylan of West Hartford and Patrick Neylan of Bradenton, Fla. She was raised and educated in Milford and was a graduate of Foran High School. In 1986, she received her BA in psychology from the University of New Haven, where she was an honor roll student and was the recipient of the award as the outstanding student of the psychology department. She also attended classes at Yale University as a special student and authored a paper published in Psychological Report.

She attended classes toward her master’s degree at the University of Bridgeport and was currently attending classes at Western Connecticut State University and Naugatuck Valley Community College. She was an employee since 1986 of the original DuPont Company in Newtown as it evolved into what is now known as Tier One, LLC.  She was a volunteer for the Danbury Literacy Project. Gail was a joy to everyone who knew her and will be sorely missed.

She was the loving sister to brother Michael Neylan of West Hartford and sister Ellen Smith and her husband Stephen of Durham, and was the loving and devoted companion of Kenneth Tremblay of Newtown. She will be sadly missed by pets, Tyler and Bridget.

A mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Gail’s life will be held Saturday, April 18, at 11 am, in St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will be private. There are no calling hours. At her request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington CT 06111. Arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
