Burglarized Houses Near Fairfield Hills

Police report two burglaries at houses that are under renovation on the northern end of Mile Hill Road South.

The town auctioned off  those two houses, plus three others, for $1.628 million in April.

The town had acquired those compact houses from the state. The buildings formerly housed workers at the nearby Fairfield Hills, a state psychiatric hospital which closed in 1995.

On August 31, police received a report that sometime overnight on August 30-31 someone had forcibly entered a vacant house, causing an estimated $500 in damage to a door and window. The crime listed by police is third degree burglary.

On August 29, police learned that sometime between 4:30 pm on August 25, and 7:30 am on August 29, someone forcibly entered a detached garage near another house and stole a gasoline-powered air compressor and an electric power washer. The two stolen items are valued at $950.

The crimes are third degree burglary and fourth degree larceny. Police are investigating the crimes and ask anyone with information to contact them at 426-5841.
