ORANGE — The Pyramid Shriners Car Club will hold its annual car show at the Orange Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 29. Proceeds will benefit Sandy Hook children, among other recipients. Following 12/14, club members decided to contribute to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

Newtown resident and club member Tom Adams said “it’s great” to receive the club’s support.

“Given the fact that many members of our club live in or grew up in Sandy Hook, it was important to support the community in its time of need,” said Club President Will Anjone. “The support of the membership was unanimous.”

“So many of us are from Sandy Hook or Newtown, we felt strongly that we wanted to help the community,” said Roy Krueger, a resident and another member of the clubd. “Our funds are for children’s hospitals but we felt this was a way to support the kids and the community in a time of need.”

Members Rick Blore, Bruce Clark, Mr Krueger and Chris Padula all attended Sandy Hook school as children, and Mr Clark and Mr Krueger still live in town. Mr Padula lives in nearby Southbury and works for Newtown Schools and donated much of his time to getting Chalk Hill School ready for the Sandy Hook children. Other members Rich Blomberg, Fred Blore and Mark Purcell all live in Newtown.

The club is looking forward to another successful event this year, with guest appearances from Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars television show fame, and magazine columnist and author Patrick Foster.

The Pyramid Shriners Car Club, affiliated with the Pyramid Shrine in Milford, is one of the more active clubs at the shrine. In addition to the donation to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, the club regularly supports the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 pediatric hospitals in the US, Canada and Mexico that provide specialized care, at no charge, for orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate.  Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals for Children have significantly improved the lives of over 800,000 children.

Membership in the Car Club is open to Shriners and non-Shriners alike. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month, alternating between Valley Diner on Route 34 in Orange and Carminuccio’s Pizza on South Main Street in Newtown. Members are from towns as far away as Weston, Easton, Ansonia, Milford and Norwalk.

“We’re always looking for new members” said Mr Anjone. “Come to a meeting and see what we’re all about.”

The fairgrounds in Orange are at 525 Orange Center Road (Route 152).
