Motorcycle Accident

Police report an accident involving a motorcycle and a hybrid auto about 6:03 pm on May 21 at the intersection of Main Street and Currituck Road.

Motorist Kimberly Benson, 45, of Newtown, who had been driving on Currituck Road, stopped at the stop sign at its intersection with Main Street. Motorcyclist Shepard Rubinger, 32, of Newtown was riding a 1984 Harley-Davidson northward on Main Street.

The Toyota then made a left turn onto Main Street directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, after which the motorcycle hit the side of Toyota, ejecting Rubinger from the motorcycle.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Rubinger to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Hook andamp; Ladder volunteer firefighters also responded to the incident. Police issued Benson an infraction for failure to grant the right of way after stopping at a stop sign.

Church Hill Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road at its intersection with eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 10 ramps about 9:05 pm on May 21.

Police said motorist Christopher Amlicke, 21, of Newtown, was driving a 2007 Saab 9-3 auto westward on Church Hill Road and was attempting to make a left turn to enter I-84's on-ramp, as motorist Karin Aurelia, 74, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2011 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, was attempting to leave the off-ramp to turn left onto westbound Church Hill Road.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Aurelia for failure to grant the right of way at a flashing traffic signal.

Hawleyville Accident

At about 5:21 pm on May 20, motorist Bonnie Ajer, 78, of Southbury, who was driving a 2015 Hyundai Sonata sedan, was getting off westbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 off-ramp to enter Hawleyville Road, as motorist Helene Williams, 77, of Newtown was driving a 2006 Honda CR-V SUV on Hawleyville Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked both motorists who both refused transport to the hospital. Police issued Ajer an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Rear-Ender

About 7:38 pm on May 18, motorist Justin Wallace, 23, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2001 Infiniti I-30 sedan near 45 Mt Pleasant Road, came to the crest of a large hill and then stopped abruptly due to stopped traffic which was ahead of him, police said.

Motorist Kaitlin Duffy, 32. of Milford, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV behind the Infiniti, then struck the rear end of the Infiniti. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Duffy for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

I-84 Ramp

Police report a two-vehicle accident in Hawleyville at the entrance to eastbound Interstate 84's Exit 9 on-ramp at about 5 pm on May 17. There were no injuries.

An unknown motorist, who was driving a Toyota Tercel auto, cut off a New Milford motorist, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX. The Subaru swerved to avoid a collision, but then struck some guardrailing, police said. The Toyota driver continued traveling up the ramp and was not found.

Three Violations

Police report motorist Thomas Coppinger, 17, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2011 Volkswagen Touareg SUV westward on Berkshire Road, about 1,500 feet west of its intersection with Great Quarter Road, at about 8:48 pm on May 17, when while negotiating a curve to the right, the SUV drove off the right road shoulder, struck a boulder, and then overturned.

Police said that on investigating the incident, they found alcohol in two boxes in the vehicle's cargo area. There were no injuries. Police issued Coppinger an infraction for making a restricted turn, driving an unregistered vehicle, and possession of alcohol by a minor.

Assault

Police said that at about 11:37 pm on May 16, they received a call informing them of a physical altercation underway between two males in the street on Greenbriar Lane, so they went to the area.

After investigating, police charged Edah Farah, 53, of Newtown with third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and third-degree criminal trespassing. After processing, police release Farah on $200 bail for a May 31 arraignment on the charges in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Hailey Conrad, 19, of Sandy Hook, went to the police station on the afternoon of May 15 and was charged with evading responsibility and failure to drive in the proper lane in connection with a March 10 auto accident, police said.

In that early morning incident, Conrad was driving a 2017 Jeep Wrangler SUV eastward on Berkshire Road which traveled off the road and then struck a utility pole near Sherman Street.

After arrest processing on May 15, police released Conrad on a written promise to appear for arraignment on the charges on May 30 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Botsford Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 6:07 pm on May 15.

Police said motorist Elise Walsh, 43, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2014 Mazda CX-9 SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Blanca Lorena Estrada, 19, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2006 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, drove along the left side of the Mazda in seeking to make a left turn onto Botsford Hill Road.

The Toyota, however, sideswiped the Mazda. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Estrada for making a restricted turn and for driving without a license.
