Relapse Prevention For The Holidays

SOUTHBURY — AMDG Family Health Resources is now in the process of forming a Relapse Prevention Group for those in the recovery process from alcohol or drug addiction.

The Holiday are especially difficult for those who are chemically-dependent with precariousness toward relapse. The physical demands and added stress of shopping, invitations to “gatherings” and parties, social and family obligations, and even the decrease of sunlight can be accumulative to cause a “slip” or relapse.

In January, the financial reality sets in with credit card use and bills coming due as well as the adult understanding for some that the past of “childhood care-free days” are gone. There is a definite correlation between the shorter and “darker days” and depression. January is one of the three most stressful months of the year.

The Relapse Prevention Group will be both supportive and therapeutic in nature and will be limited to only ten individuals. A criteria preference will be for those who are not currently in any intensive outpatient or therapy program. The group will run through the end of January.

Those interested, or seeking further information, may call  AMDG at 264-6957.

The group will be led by Sue Mylie, MS.
