Youth Grapplers Win Medals In Winter Warm-up

The Newtown Youth Wrestling Association finished its first week of regular season competitive wrestling with much success. Both the elementary and middle school squads participated in the Connecticut Green Knights Winter Warm-up tournament held in Terryville. Making the trip north were 20 of the NYWA wrestlers from the younger and older programs.

The elementary team struck early and often as four of the eight wrestlers came home with gold medals. The elementary crew was paced by newcomer Zack Robinson who went a perfect 4-0 with four pins.  Joining Robinson in the gold medal group were Shaine Luzietti, Simon Preston, and Michael Garner.  Other medal winners were Luca Manfredi and Michael Carpenter (silver) and Ryan Straiton (bronze).

The middle school team fared equally as well as the boys came back with ten medals, including five gold.  eading the charge for the team was sixth grader Joe Accousti who went 5-0 with four pins. Teammates Ed Lovely, Luca Crudo, Kevin Ross, and Ed Lajoie also earned gold. Rounding out the medal winners were Anthony Falbo, Erik Benson, and James Brown (silver), and Dylan Bartlett and Chris Lajoie (bronze).
