Pickup Vs Pickup
An accident involving two pickup trucks occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Swamp Road about 5 pm December 1, police report.
Robert Byers, 43, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger, was stopped at a stop sign at the end of Swamp Road, as Donald Kovats, Jr, 37, of 9 Swamp Road, who was driving s 2001 Ford F-150, was heading southward on South Main Street, police said.
As Byers was turning left onto southbound South Main Street, Kovats was turning left onto Swamp Road, police said. The vehicles collided. There were no injuries.
Police issued Byers a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign. Police gave Kovats a written warning for failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.
Currituck Crash
While driving on Currituck Road during a windstorm about 5 pm December 1, motorist Jean Wurster, 87, of Southbury, who was driving a 1998 Nissan Sentra, collided with a tree that had fallen onto the road, police said.
The impact of that collision caused the tree to bounce and a branch of the tree struck a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck which was being driven in the opposite direction by William Saren, 56, of Sunnyview Terrace, police said.
There were no injuries or enforcement actions.

Flagpole Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident near the Main Street flagpole about 5:50 pm December 1.
Police said the collision involved motorist John Fauto II, 17, of 52 Maltbie Road, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, and motorist Lionel Brown, 62, of Shepard Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Volvo station wagon.
There were no injuries. Police said Fauto was driving an unregistered vehicle.
Fairfield Hills Trespass
Police report they charged three people from Stratford with simple trespassing about 11:30 pm December 2, after they were found on the town-owned Fairfield Hills core campus grounds after hours.
Charged with infractions were Daniel Kinsman, 20; Jonathan Puchowicz, 19; and William Waite, 19, police said.
The grounds are closed to the public from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise. The ground are now posted against trespassing and roads leading to the grounds are barricaded when the property is closed.
Orchard Hill Deer
Motorist Ethan Bailey, 26, of 20 Lake Road, who was driving a 1997 Ford Probe eastward near 6 Orchard Hill Road about 10 pm November 30, swerved to avoid a deer that had entered the road but then struck a tree along the westbound road shoulder, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the crash to clean up spilled automotive fluids.
Bailey was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Sugar Street
Motorist Mercedes Garcia, 39, of Bethel, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Maxima sedan eastward on Sugar Street about 8 am December 2, collided with a deer that had entered the road, police said. The deer ran off. Garcia was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Chain Reaction
Police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident on northbound South Main Street about 8 am December 1.
In that accident, motorist Timothy Pdan, 44, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1992 Toyota Camry, braked, but drove into the rear end of a 2004 Honda Pilot driven by Wang Mao, 34, of Milford, thus pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 1998 Buick Park Avenue driven by Florencio Rodriguez, 23, of Bridgeport, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Pdan an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
100 MPH
State police said they saw motorist Jay Bennett, 45, no town listed, driving more than 100 miles per hour on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 7:11 pm December 4.
After he was signaled to stop, Bennett continued driving for about one mile, state police said.
After investigation, state police charged Bennett with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and disobeying a signal to stop. State police released Bennett on $500 bail for a December 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Frosty View DUI
State police said that at about 1:46 am December 3, they encountered a motor vehicle accident that had just occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9.
 State police said motorist John B. Keane, 21, of 183 Berkshire Road had been driving a vehicle that had frost covering its windshield when he drove into the rear end of a tractor-trailer truck. Keane was not injured.
After investigating, state police charged Keane with driving under the influence, following too closely, and driving with an obstructed view.
State police released Keane on $500 bail for a December 13 court appearance in Danbury.
Rollover Accident
State police said motorist Vern Scatliffe, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 1991 Toyota Corolla westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 7 pm December 3, lost control of the vehicle and struck a reflector pole on the roadâs median, after which the auto veered to the right and climbed an embankment and then rolled over, coming to rest on the roadâs shoulder.
Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Scatliffe to Danbury Hospital to be checked, state police said. State police issued Scatliffe a misdemeanor summons for driving without a license and driving without automotive insurance.
Lincoln Crash
Motorist Wilma Morse, 76, of North Bergen, N.J., who was driving a 2000 Lincoln Continental eastward in the right lane of Interstate 84, fell asleep at the wheel and then drifted across the left lane, striking the median guardrail about 3:30 pm December 3, state police said.
Morse was not injured. State police verbally warned Morse for failure to stay in the established lane.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Jeffrey Lillis, 27, of Bristol, turned himself over to them on December 6 and was charged with second degree failure to appear in court and with sixth degree larceny.
Police said the larceny charge stems from an incident earlier this year in which Lillis allegedly drove away from a gas station without paying for $12 worth of gasoline.
After posting $1,000 bail, police released Lillis for a December 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Residential Vandalism
Police are investigating a case of residential vandalism in which someone damaged two outdoor light fixtures that are positioned atop stone pillars at the end of a driveway on Williams Lane. The damage occurred sometime between 7:50 am and 8:30 pm on November 29. Williams Lane is a dead end street extending off Poverty Hollow Road.

Vandalism/Theft
After learning that police held an arrest warrant, a youth under age 16 surrendered to them on December 8 and was charged with conspiracy to commit first degree criminal mischief and with sixth degree larceny in connection with incidents that occurred last May, police said.
The criminal mischief charge involves more than $1,500 of property damage. The larceny charge involves the theft of less than $250.
The identities of people under age 16 who charged with crimes are shielded by state law. The youth is scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on December 13.
Mt Pleasant Road
Motorist Brian Silverlieb, 57, of 21 Platts Hill Road was driving a 2001 Mercedes-Benz ML-320 sport-utility vehicle westward near 166 Mt Pleasant Road about 5 pm December 7, when an unidentified eastbound vehicle entered the westbound lane and collided with the Mercedes, police said.
The unidentified vehicle drove off without stopping. Silverlieb was not injured.
The offending vehicle has damage to its left side. Police ask anyone with information on the accident to contact them at 426-5841.
