SENIOR BOYS

 

MADISON (A) 10, NEWTOWN (A) 3: Steve Murtha, Matt DeLuca and John Oliver scored the goals and Matt Kelly provided the assistance in a loss to Madison. Murtha and Kelly combined for 13 ground balls and Kyle Kirch was also strong in that department. Ryan Bigham, Dave Wesley and Uli Werner led the midfield attack as Jay Romanelli and Devon Manfredonia anchored the defense in front of goaltender Chris Body, who made 12 saves.

RIDGEFIELD (B) 7, NEWTOWN (B) 4: Brendan O’Connor scored a pair of goals while Chris Jordan and Mike Cummings tallied one each in a loss to Ridgefield. Ross Coates and O’Connor picked up nine ground balls apiece while Jay Schunter had eight. Dan Winkler and Jeff Bell had solid games at midfield as Kevin Byrne, Steve Giacalone and Cummings led the attack. Mike Cash made nine saves in the cage.

FAIRFIELD (A) 3, NEWTOWN (A) 2 (2 OT): In the pouring rain, Fairfield was able to score the game winner with only 10 seconds left in overtime. Colin Curran, Devon Manfredonia, Brian Sharnick and Jay Romanelli were outstanding on defense. Steve Murtha scored both Newtown goals and helped control the midfield with nine ground balls. Kyle Kirch, John Oliver and Mike LaPerch combined for 15 ground balls while Chris Body made 10 saves in goal.

NEWTOWN (A) 9, ELI (A) 1: Newtown’s offense exploded for seven goals in the second half to put this game away. Mike LaPerch scored twice while Dave Wesley, Brendan O’Connor, Ross Coates, Matt Wheeler, John Oliver, Adam Pennarola and Steve Murtha all added solo goals. Murtha provided a pair of assists while Coates and Matt DeLuca each had one assist. Newtown picked up 59 ground balls (Murtha 10, Oliver 8, O’Connor 7) while Eli only picked up 21.

BANTAMS

 

NEWTOWN 5, REDDING 4: Alex Hamilton, Blake Bell, Alex Bowen led the offense in a win over Redding. Alex Divico, Sam McChord and Tim Wheeler powered the defense as Spencer Schnell controlled the midfield. Ian White and Evan Neugold shared the net.

NEWTOWN 9, CHESHIRE 4: Max and Christian Beitel combined for four goals and Alex Hamilton added two more as Newtown defeated Cheshire. Steve Dooling, Max Paynter and Zach Flemming also scored. Sam McChord, Tim Wheeler and Blake Bell were strong on offense while Ian White and Evan Neugold combined for seven saves in the cage.
