Begun in 1912, medicine has always been in the forefront of what Hadassah supports. The pace-setting Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO), with its world-renowned Hadassah Hospitals on Mount Scopus and En Karem in Jerusalem, is the largest research and medical institution in the Middle East and considered an island of peace, so much so that HMO was a 2005 nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize.
