Andrew J.    Hunihan

Longtime Newtown Highway Department Employee

Andrew J. Hunihan Jr, 79, formerly of Buttonball Drive, Sandy Hook, died September 16 in Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Derby on November 17, 1925, a son of Andrew and Margaret (Qubick) Hunihan. Andy was a lifelong resident of Newtown and was a graduate of Newtown High School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr Hunihan was a longtime employee of the Town of Newtown Highway Department and retired as road foreman in 1979. Most recently he had been a resident of Laurel Ridge in Ridgefield.

Mr Hunihan is survived by three daughters, Diane Hulswit of Danbury, Linda Casey of Norwood, N.J., and Teresa Terino of Atlantic Beach, N.Y.; one brother, Jeremiah Hunihan of Woodbury; six sisters, Lorraine Mihalek of Newtown, Barbara Trudeau of Sandy Hook, Roseanne Fox of Derby, Joan Hennesey of Southbury, and Ellen Shortt and Mary Condon both of Florida; four grandchildren, Brian Casey, Shannon Casey, Christian Terino, and Thomas Terino.

Funeral services were held September 21 from the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial.

Interment followed in St Rose Cemetery.
